Homemade Cinnamon Stars – A classic christmas cookie

Indulge in the sweet and spicy flavor of homemade Cinnamon Stars, a traditional German cookie also known as ‘Zimtsterne’. Made with almond flour, cinnamon and powdered sugar, these star-shaped treats are perfect for the holiday season or any time of year.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups almond flour
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Additional powdered sugar for dusting

Preparation:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the almond flour, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  3. Fold the beaten egg whites into the dry ingredients, along with the almond extract, until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  5. Roll out the dough between two sheets of parchment paper until it’s about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the cookies, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until they’re slightly golden around the edges.
  8. Let the cookies cool completely before removing them from the baking sheet.
  9. Dust the cooled cookies with powdered sugar before serving.
